Can I vote in Florida if I have a disability?

YES! Federal and Florida State law requires that people with disabilities have access to all voting methods, including in person and by mail.

Voting in Person Accommodations

During the early voting period and on Election Day, ALL polling places will provide:

  • Accessible parking spaces

  • An accessible path with sufficient lighting from the parking spot to the polling site

  • At least one accessible polling machine that allows voting in privacy with little or no assistance

  • Personal assistance in filling out the ballot, if requested. Voters are not required to disclose the nature of their disability when asking for help. Additionally, voters can bring someone to assist them in voting instead of asking a poll worker for help.

Voting by Mail Accommodations

Voters with disabilities can receive and fill out an accessible vote-by-mail ballot. You will need access to a computer and a printer.

Requesting and returning an accessible vote-by-mail ballot:

1. Register to vote, or if you believe you are already registered to vote, check your voting status.

2. Contact your Supervisor of Elections and request both a vote-by-mail and an accessible vote-by-mail ballot. Make sure to specify that you want an ACCESSSIBLE vote-by-mail ballot. You will fill out only one out but need to request both.

3. You will receive 2 items: (1) an email with instructions of how to access and vote using a computer and (2) an envelope containing a standard ballot, secrecy sleeve, and return envelope through the mail.

4. When it is time to vote, open the email on your computer and follow the step-by-step instructions provided.  You will select your answer or candidate by clicking on your preference.

5. Once you have completed your voting, print out your answers.

6. Insert your printed answers only in the privacy sleeve.

7. Place the privacy sleeve into the envelope provided with the physical/traditional vote-by-mail ballot. Discard the traditional vote-by-mail ballot; only include the printed ballot in the envelope.

8. Sign and date the red box on the envelope.

9. Mail the envelope or deliver it to the office of your Supervisor of Elections. If mailed, no postage/stamp is needed.

Voting by Mail for Resident of an Assisted Living Facility or Nursing Home

The administrator of the assisted living facility or nursing home can contact the Supervisor of Elections to request special supervised voting at the facility on a scheduled date and time. Residents of the facility will still need to request a vote-by-mail ballot. A supervised voting team will come to the facility to deliver the ballots and oversee the voting process. Participation in this organized voting is not mandatory; residents can choose to vote by mail at their convenience or vote in person.
